Currimundi is a mid-life coastal suburb with 6,570 residents and a median age of 45. Technicians and trades workers (16.9%) and community and personal service workers (14.8%) lead its workforce, and hospitals, aged care and primary education are the largest employers. At the 2021 Census 38.8% of dwellings were owned outright and 33.8% mortgaged, while 17.3% of families were one-parent. A wills and estate lawyer Currimundi households rely on plans for a mid-life estate: a mortgage that is still running, children who may now be adults, and a career that carries its own insurance. The first conversation is free.

Mid-life households are often the most under-planned. The mortgage may be half paid, the children may be teenagers or adults, and the will may pre-date a second marriage or a new job. For care-sector and trades workers, employer cover and super may be the largest protection in the household, and it sits outside the will. We review those together so the family is not left with a mortgage and an out-of-date document.

What Currimundi's Mid-Life Profile Changes

Currimundi has 6,570 residents, a median age of 45, and a median household income of $1,467 a week. Housing is 81.8% separate houses, with 38.8% owned outright, 33.8% mortgaged and 24.6% rented. Couples with children (39.1%) and without (42.4%) are close together, and 17.3% of families are one-parent. A household in the middle of its working life usually has the most moving parts: a loan with years left, children at different stages, and a will that may pre-date a separation or a second relationship. Our Currimundi appointments review those three things first, then the insurance and super, then the executor and the guardianship clause.

FAQs

We're halfway through the mortgage. Do we need a new will?

Probably, if the will pre-dates the children growing up, a second relationship or a change of executor. A mid-life review checks the will against the loan and the insurance, which is the point where most problems show up.

My employer cover ends when I change jobs. What should I do?

Check whether personal cover is also in place, and record the cover and its end date in your planning. We include that in the review so the will does not assume protection that may have lapsed.

I've remarried. What happens to my first family?

Marriage revokes an earlier will unless it was made in contemplation of that marriage. Your new will needs to provide for both households clearly, including any children from the earlier relationship.

Our adult children should share the executor role. Is that workable?

It can be, but co-executors need to agree on decisions. We usually recommend naming one lead executor and a substitute, with guidance on how decisions are made.

What does a will cost?

It depends on the estate. The first consultation is free, and the full fee is quoted before work starts.
